The SANLW have hosted many history making moments and Friday, April 19 2019 was no exception, with the Woodville-West Torrens - Eagles boasting a new meaning to “Family-Orientated Club”.
Despite a narrow 5-point loss against West Adelaide at City Mazda Stadium on Friday Night, the Woodville West Torrens Football Club made history as Mother-Daughter duo Bronwyn Davey and Tesharna Maher took to the field in unprecedented fashion.

Bronwyn Davey (pictured below) is a superstar and pioneer in women’s football, has played over a 100 SAWFL Games plus multiple games in the Northern Territory and Central Australia competition. Davey was also 1 of 4 Indigenous players included in the AFL’s first Women’s Exhibition match, played at the MCG in 2013 lining up for inaugural AFLW club Melbourne.
Her experience and game knowledge derived from both playing and coaching added an element of composure to a competitive Eagles side on Friday Night.

Tesharna Maher (pictured below) has become an integral part of the Eagles outfit this year, adding an element of excitement to the team with her trademark run off the half-back line. Her ability to run and carry as well as her tackle pressure was already on display just minutes in to Friday Night’s Clash against the Bloods.
At just 17, she is already demonstrating promise for a successful football career. We expect that Maher will be the only female footballer to take to the field alongside their mum in a SANFLW match.

The momentous occasion for both mum and daughter could be felt through the entire playing group and support staff when applause erupted for the talented pair in the changerooms prior to the match.
Davey was named in the side after demonstrating a high level of commitment and effort on the track while daughter, Maher has managed to concrete her spot since her Round 2 debut, having only missed one game due to a prior commitment.
